Although it is very difficult to avoid there are some tips that we can follow to prevent our email from falling into spam lists and consequently we start receiving emails that we do not want.
First, the name used in the email has nothing to do with whether or not you are on a spam list. You can use the weirdest name to remember that if you do not have some care you will end up getting your email on spam lists.
Here are some tips you can, and should, follow when creating a new email:
1 – Use your primary email address only to contact other people like friends, family, and trusted coworkers.
2 – Never use your primary email address to open an account on any site except your bank’s website. This rule also includes discussion forums, blogs, and even online stores. The reason for this is that some of these sites have policies and permissions that allow you to cede the emails there registered to third parties for marketing purposes. In some of them it is possible to withdraw the visa from this option when registering, but in others not. For the sake of it, it’s no use taking no chances.
It is best to create another secondary email address for this type of records.
3 – Do not use your main email to sign up for contests, newsletters or any other type of offers. The reason is the same as above.
4 – If you receive an email from SPAM, do not click the “Unsubscribe” link that is usually located near the bottom of the message. It may seem like a contradiction but the truth is that if the email is really spam click on this link will only confirm to who sent it that the email is active and that the user is seeing the emails. This will only increase the likelihood of receiving even more emails.
There is no 100% effective method to keep your email out of advertising lists and the like but if you follow these small tips you will surely receive much fewer emails.
